Snake venom বা সাপের বিষ নিয়ে কথা বললেই প্রথমে যেটা মাথায় আসে তা হল সাপের বিষ দাঁত বা Fangs।
Fangs বা বিষ দাঁত কী?
These are curved teeth situated on the maxillary bones and lie along the jaws and are covered by a flab of mucus membrane.
বিষ দাঁত থাকবে দুইটা।
Fangs এর criteria:
- The fangs become erect and point directly forward while biting.
- Bigger than the other teeth and are grooved or canalized in poisonous snakes and are solid in nonpoisonous snakes.
সাপের এই poison গুলোর জন্য থাকে poison glands: They are salivary glands of the snake and are situated behind the eyes one on each side of the head above the upper jaw.
সাপদের স্পেশাল কিছু Sense organ থাকে:
সাপের Oral cavity মধ্যে Palate এ কিছু স্পেসাল Sensitive cell থাকে যেগুলোকে jacobson’s sense organ বলা হয়। আমরা জানি, সাপেরা শুনতে পায় না তাই তারা forked tongue এর মাধ্যমে বাতাস থেকে stimuli কালেক্ট করে এবং tongue কে প্যালেটের সাথে স্পর্শ করায় এবং এই sensation এর মাধ্যমে কোন কিছুর উপস্থিতি টের পায়।
এ ছাড়াও আরও কিছু Sense organ থাকেঃ
1.Vision (Most effective for moving subject a static object may not stimulate the vision of snake)
2.Touch Sensation
3.Hearing (Snakes cannot hear)
4.Vibration (From the vibration of a moving subject from ground)
5.Temperature sensation (Pit vipers are sensitive to any temperature variation).

Venom is the saliva of the snake.
Venom এর Composition:
- Neurotoxins
- Haemolysin
- Proteolysis
- Fibrinolysin
- Cholinesterase
- Thromboplastin
- Coagulase
- Cardiotoxin
- Nucleotidase
- Hyaluronidase
- Lecithinase
- Phospholipase -A
- Agglutinin.
জানা প্রয়োজনঃ
- The concentration of venom shows diurnal and seasonal variation.
- Venom travels through lymphatics and superficial veins.
Fatal dose and fatal period of different snake venom:
Fatal dose:
i) Cobra :12 mg
ii) Common krait: 6 mg
iii) Russell’s viper: 15 mg
Fatal Period:
i) Cobra varieties : 1/2 hours to 6 hours.
ii) Viper varieties: 1 to 2 days.
snake venom কি রকম effect ফেলবে বিভিন্ন system এঃ
Time= less than 1 hour.
i) CNS features:
a. Headache,
b. Irritability,
c. Confusion,
d. Photophobia.
ii) GIT:
a. Nausea,
b. Vomiting,
c. Diarrhoea.
iii) Coagulation abnormal
